My Dearest Meg,
I hope this finds Father, Mother, Jenny, boys and Yourself in the best of
health, as it leaves me at present. I am feeling very happy today as I received your letters of 17th, 19th, 21st, 27th, 31st Aug. & pc (postcard?) of 31st.
I am sorry to hear that there is no word of my valise and am afraid it has gone West. Also am glad to know you have made all arrangements with Holt.
As for Hayes I last saw him on the 29th May when I was in the Prisoners cage in Ramecourt and spoke to him for a few minutes but the Officers were moved that day so didn't see him again but he was quite well.
It was delightful to get such a nice letter from Father and please thank him
for the line and hooks.
I have no information re W Stevenson and he is certainly not here. I suppose you mean 2nd Lt.
So far I have had very few cigs but hope the parcel of 300 will arrive soon. Please thank Bab's friend who sent the 50 which were so acceptable also
Mrs ......(?) and (?) Sharp for their contributions and tell Babs her baking
was ......(?). I got Babs letter of 18th Aug & pc of 31st and 3rd Sept.
This week I got your food parcel posted on 24th Aug and one from Cooper & Co of 6th Sept & a clothing parcel posted on 7th Sept with contents all correct.
The food parcels were splendid but your own were greatly superior to Cooper's. Don't send any more salt as we can get any amount here but what we do want
is saccharin.
You have never mentioned about the shorthand book which I asked you
to send and I have been wondering if that message ever got home.
You must have had a great deal of trouble with all those parcels and I don't
know how to thank you all for being so good to me.
Last week our Battn. was photographed and I had to borrow tunic & breeches for the occasion. I have seen the proof and as usual I look a picture.
All of us are hoping for a speedy home going and judging by reports we shouldn't have so very long to wait. I'll be able to spend the months holidays with you alright next year I hope and then for a glorious time. I am working hard at Maths & Shorthand so my time is not entirely being wasted.
We have had some lovely evenings lately and they made me long more than
ever to be "wi ma ain folks".
I hope Robbie is still keeping well and please send him my best wishes.
Now dear Meg I must finish with fondest love to Father, Mother, Babs
& Yourself from Your ever affectionate brother.
Bob
